The NFL has been plagued with injuries throughout the first three weeks of the season. The amount of season-ending injuries has also come at an alarming rate. So far this year we have seen multiple superstars such as Nick Bosa, Saquon Barkley, and rising superstar Courtland Sutton all go down with season-ending injuries. The amount of injuries early on this season is alarming and more than we have seen at the beginning of prior seasons.
But, this could be because there was not a preseason this year which may not have allowed the athletes to properly prepare their bodies for the workload and beating they take throughout the season. The teams most affected by the injury bug are the San Francisco 49ers, New York Giants, Indianapolis Colts, and the Denver Broncos. After week three, the San Francisco 49ers have a total of twenty-three players injured. Before week three, they had ten players inactive. This included their star players such as Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas who will be out for the year, Raheem Mostert, George Kittle, Jimmy Garoppolo, Deebo Samuel, and Richard Sherman.
Even with practically every star 49er injured, they were still able to utterly destroy the New York Giants. Speaking of the New York Giants, their pride and joy Saquon Barkley tore his ACL and will miss the remainder of the season. If you play fantasy football, do not go and get their backup running back as the Giants are awful and will not run the ball anymore since they will be losing every game to any decent team by at least two possessions. The 49ers and Giants were not the only ones hit hard with injuries. The Indianapolis Colts have a running back, as well as a safety, who have already been injured and are both out for the year.
This year in the first three weeks, there have been more torn ACLs than ever before, could this be a direct result of not having a preseason?
